Big.

Brand values for Big Drop.

Over at Big Drop, we defined seven key words (and some guardrails) that must define everything we do.

Over at Big Drop, we’ve defined seven key words (and some useful guardrails) that must define everything we do. Everybody from sales, marketing, finance and operations got involved in defining the words that make us, us.

We spent a lot of time thinking as a team about what Big Drop should be, both for us as a group of individuals and how we communicate to customers.

Some brands have very different characters from what they say and what they do. That’s not us.

We want to make sure we live and breathe ours everyday; honestly, playfully, socially, with an open mind and healthy dollop of curiousity.

Setting the guardrails.

Alongside each of the seven words, we also created some simple guardrails to help us keep on track. Applying some goldilocks thinking to these, we’ve set the guardrails using:

  • Too much
  • Too little
  • Just right

These are words we live by at Big Drop. Every time we’re thinking of doing something, this list helps us drive things in the right direction.

Bold

Too little

Conventional

Too much

Strident

Just right

Assertive

What we believe

The world of craft beer is not short of opinions and we’re no exception, in fact we love a good opinion, we just don’t think you need to be all Shouty-McShoutface when sharing them.

How we behave

When we have something to say, we throw back our shoulders, take a deep breath and speak clearly, so that even those at the back can hear us.

Honest

Too Little

Passive Aggressive

Too Much

Rude

Just Right

Transparent

What we believe

Mistakes happen, that’s just life. And when they do, we own them, learn from them, and usually laugh about them later.

How we behave

If we’ve done it, we own it. Most of the time, we’ll be proud to, but if we’ve made a mistake, we’ll just as happily hold our hands up and say so.

Playful

Too Little

Childish

Too Much

Boisterous

Just Right

Fun

What we believe

The f-word that makes everything worthwhile. If you’re not having fun or failing to see the joy in what you’re doing then what’s the point in what you’re doing?

How we behave

We look forward to every new day with a spring in our step. Yes, it can be annoying for those living below us. But come on, we brew craft beer for a living, of course we’re going to be having fun.

Vibrant

Too Little

Artificial

Too Much

Brash

Just Right

Lively

What we believe

Spend time with a mopey teen and you’ll know just how much easier life is when you add energy, enthusiasm and a blast of technicolour gusto to it.

How we behave

We bring energy to the table, whether that’s in the boardroom, the kitchen or the pub, we want that table to be buzzing with potential.

Social

Too Little

Superficial

Too Much

Overbearing

Just Right

Approachable

What we believe

There’s a mug in our kitchen that says, A stranger is just a friend you don’t know. It reminds us to always make time for a chat. And that wisdom can be found in strange places.

How we behave

We’re a company that likes company. So, whoever you are, we’re always going to welcome you in with a big ole smile and an offer of a cheeky beer.

Open Minded

Too Little

Cautious

Too Much

Careless

Just Right

Curious

What we believe

A little curiosity a day, keeps the predictable away. It’s curiosity that clips the status quo around the head, shakes things up and leads to interesting.

How we behave

Yes, deadly for cats but for us it fuels the why-nots, the what-ifs that challenge convention, break the odd rule and allow us to do things differently.

Determined

Too Little

Thoughtless

Too Much

Stubborn

Just Right

Driven

What we believe

Waking up knowing you’re going to have a good day, working with good people, making great beer is way better than an alarm blaring out ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.’

How we behave

We’re all about getting stuff done, whatever life throws at us. So, once we’ve decided something needs doing, we’ll come together and do it. Job done.

Do you live by your brand values?

Brand values shouldn’t just be there for fluff and to sound cool. All too often, brands and brand owners say one thing and do another. There’s probably at least one beer brand that springs to mind here, right?

What are your brand values; can you honestly say you live by them?
